Markings - Stampings

This section is created to help students, collectors to know the different markings stamped on the bayonets. These markings, in the bayonet collecting field, are an essential factor for identifying some unusual bayonets. Actually a bayonet of a well know model, ie a French model 1842, with special stamps can be found to be a very specific, interesting or unknown model and in fact not to be the model most people could identify as a French Model 1842.

It is clear that the list of the markings, stamps can be very lengthy and only experience and bibliography are important help to certainly identify a bayonet. To identify these markings, stamps, etc. a good and clear close view photograph is necessary.You can find some information in the « Photos » section. A good photo is thousand times better than a long description.
As for the « Fakes and Repros » section, our bimestrial « Gazette de la baïonnette » will show you the collected informations even if already published somewhere else in the behalf of everybody. You can see some very close view photos of some markings still unknown. Any time the marking will be really identified, the photos will be changed. These two markings were seen on a French model 1842 style bayonet but for an unidentified foreign country. An article in the “Gazette de la Bayonnette” issue number 5 is devoted to this bayonet. Please help us to find the identifications.
