The yataghan blade style became very popular in bayonet design and was produced and used by many nations over a period of sixty-four years. This blade presents a continuous curved edge, far superior in cutting ability than a straight edge. Yet, the recurved effect of this shape aligns the point of the blade with the long axis of the hilt to promote efficiency when thrusting.
Another advantage of the yataghan design is that the drooping blade is located further from the muzzle to facilitate reloading while the bayonet is fixed. The blade is also removed from the destructive effects of muzzle blast. This article presents the two ultimates models used by a nation.
